Some days I wake up wondering what am I doing. Establishing and maintaining a profitable business is so different from running around Greenville snappin’ photos of the my friends children! I love photography. It completes me. No really. I get a charge from searching out pretty light and waiting shy kiddos out for that perfect shot. Because when I captured that special sparkle of a moment – it’s priceless!
My muse for this shoot is two-years-old. (Also image for new studio postcard) Yes, I know she already looks like a super model. I knew when I clicked my shutter that I was going to love this image. Here are a few more that I am working into a coffee table art book. I love coffee table books. Interior designers use them often to compliment family room decor. How cool would it be to have one of your little ones. Exactly, that’s my dream to create amazing coffee table art books for my clients. I am excited and of course I will be creating one or two for our family room.
It’s in my moments of blissful creativity and shooting cute children that I remember why I decided to begin butterfly house. Because I rather work my “A- off” creating my dream than creating another’s dream.

Enjoy every moment. K.

I love this image!!! I took this at Oscar Night America hosted by The Junior League of Greenville of a sweet lady and friend. I had an awesome time at the event. I was not planning to attend but a friend of mine convinced me to go and have a girls night out. We had a blast. Great music, delicious food and I took my first photo booth picture.
During the event, I also found out my blog had disappeared from cyberland! Yet another great lady let me know my blog was missing. Thank you so much! Then I quickly called my sister/friend in a panic to see if she could pull up my blog. Thanks girl for being there and keeping me together. No worries.
After I got home from the event I sat down at my computer and began to re-build the blog. As I typed and created I thought about how blessed I am to have caring, creative, strong, gifted, supportive, and faithful friends!
My life is rich, full and complete with priceless friendships. I am so grateful for all the special friends sent my way.
Enjoy every moment, Kim
I am definitely ready for some warmer weather in Greenville, SC. While I am waiting I will be working on a new website and ordering product samples for the studio. There are so many awesome presentation products available. It has taken me some time to narrow done my choices. I will be sure to post images of the vendor samples I have decided to offer.
I am amazed how over the last 6 months butterfly house studio has taken-off. I have been blessed to attend an awesome photography workshop in Atlanta (had the best roomie), trust my design ability and create a logo, sassy blog, and marketing materials for myself and other businesswoman, shoot commerical images for some cool and forward thinking businesses and organizations (two of my favs Greenbrier Farms and Pecha Kucha Greenville) and best of all establishing new friendships. When I first met with my business coach Teisha about a year ago and mapped out my business plan she told me the document I was creating at the time would be dynamic and ever changing – boy was she right! I am so thankful that I have the ability to change and expand in new and brighter directions. As I look back over my first business plan I realize how important the ability to evolve and change is for my studio. I think I am on a good path of discovery and fun and I look forward to sharing that with my clients. Evolving and being grateful all the way.

Okay these girls rocked it out in their shoots! I know their moms are excited about seeing the images because they both emailed me right after the shoot. I love when my clients get excited as I am about seeing the final images. We started the session with more of an advertising flavor and by the end I just had to get back to the outdoors. I love shooting in grass and among trees and flowers. Changin’ it up is definitely a good thing.

I asked my sweet muse to show me how see would look if she didn’t get ice cream after we had finished. I got this.

a second later….watch out Dakota Fanning

Enjoy every moment. K
Since I began butterfly house studio I have been struggling with what subjects I should be blogging about and its presentation. Should I share my life? How much is too much? Should I keep things all business. After all blogs are important marketing tools.
As a blog stalker of my some of my favorite photographers. I’ve wondered how I could ever create a blog that is interesting, warm & honest. And most of all visually stimulating. Finally my heart feels good about sharing my life with you. I share my photography which is my heart & soul. It is how I see the world. How I see God’s art. So it makes sense at least in my mind to share my personal thoughts, successes, & difficulties.
So here I go….jump right in!
I have decided to create a “foto gratis” journal to keep me focused on being content with each day, each moment, & each second of life. Balancing life between mother, wife, volunteer, and entrepreneur is an often perplexing and emotional roller coaster. But the riches of each role are worth the daily search for understanding and peace of mind.
My favorite scrapbooker Ali Edwards impresses me with her ability to create a rich personal history through an art medium. Borrowing from her idea of creating mini-albums that record a specific period of time. I am creating a “foto gratis” journal. Each entry will include an image and statement of gratitude. I will continue until my birthday June 15. It will be a great birthday present to myself. A journal of all the stuff I forget about when I am having a blue day.
The natural lighting in my house is almost non-existent. I think that is why I am able to find available light in just about anybody else’s house. Yesterday afternoon, I was photographing my son and moaning about the lack of light even on a bright sunny day. He was playing on the floor and giggling to himself. As I watched him thru my lens I thought how great it is to have him to share happiness. You know, the blissful happiness of being invisible and fighting bad guys. Even if the lighting is crappy because after all our happiness made it alright!

Lately, I have received a number of requests to photograph birthday parties. If it involves capturing kids being themselves and having tons of fun…count me in. This weekend I headed over to The Wiggle Room. Check them out on Facebook . The Wiggle Room offers art classes for pre-schoolers to teens. I loved the decor and the kiddos had a blast making art projects and presenting a puppet show. The owner & art teacher, April is very creative and awesome with kids. Here are a few shots from the party and of the birthday boy! Happy Birthday!!!
